Terms of service

These terms cover your use of this fact-check bot. By sending it a message you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service. How your data is handled is described separately in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

What the service does

You send a factual claim by Instagram direct message. The service investigates it, tries to trace it to primary sources, and replies with a verdict, a short summary, and the sources it found. It is free to use and offered as is.

It is automated, and it is not advice

Every reply is produced by an automated system using language models. No human reviews your message before you get an answer. The service is a research aid, not professional advice. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or safety decisions, and do not treat a verdict as a substitute for reading the primary sources yourself.

Accuracy, and what a verdict actually claims

A verdict describes the evidence the service was able to find at the time it checked, and nothing more. It can be wrong. It can miss evidence, misread a source, or reach a confident-sounding conclusion from an incomplete search. Claims that were true when checked can stop being true. The sources are listed with every verdict so you can check the reasoning rather than take the answer on trust. No warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose is given, to the extent the law allows.

What you may send

Send claims you are allowed to share. Do not use the service to send unlawful content, to harass anyone, to submit other people's personal information, or to run bulk or automated submissions. Do not attempt to manipulate the verdict, extract the underlying prompts, or use the service to generate material presented as an independent verification of something it did not check.

Fair use limits

Each check costs real money to run, so the service applies per person and per day limits, and may queue, decline, or ignore a request. It may also decline messages that are not factual claims. These limits change without notice.

Results are published

Finished fact-check results are kept in a public archive and may be published, including on social media. Published results are anonymized: they contain the claim and the findings, and nothing that identifies who submitted it. Do not send a claim you would not want checked in public. You keep whatever rights you have in the text you send, and you give permission to check it and to publish the anonymized result.

Suspension

Access may be limited or withdrawn at any time, without notice, for any reason, including the conduct described above. You can stop using the service at any time, and you can have your data deleted by the routes set out in the privacy policy.

Liability

The service is provided free and as is. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it or from reliance on a verdict. Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

Changes

These terms may change. The current version is always the one on this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Who operates this service, and how to reach them
